Wrapping a rigid carton differs from wrapping a bottle group. Carton edges, board strength, surface finish and trapped air influence the result. Before choosing a web sealer, decide whether the purpose is grouping, surface protection, presentation or keeping a pack together for the next handling stage.
Which carton details affect machine selection?
Send the minimum and maximum carton sizes with actual filled weights. Include printed cartons, coated surfaces and any weak panels that may react differently to film tension and heat. A machine that accepts the external dimensions may still need a trial to confirm that the pack stays square and the printed surface remains acceptable.

What should you inspect after shrinking?
Look for corner damage, bowed carton panels, seam openings and distortion near the film edges. Open sample packs and check whether heat or pressure has affected the contents. Evaluate appearance after the pack has cooled and after normal warehouse handling, rather than judging it immediately at the tunnel exit.

When are carton taping and strapping also required?
If cartons need their flaps closed and an additional strap before dispatch, review the automatic carton taping with box strapping machine as a separate packaging stage. Supply the carton size range, board condition, tape specification and strap material. Verify top and bottom tape placement, the tape fold around each edge, strap position and acceptable carton compression in the trial.
Check whether carton size adjustments and flap preparation are automatic or operator tasks in the quoted configuration. Run lightweight cartons as well as heavy ones and inspect the result after handling. A tight strap can damage weak board; carton condition and the approved tension settings matter as much as the machine cycle. Agree the transfers between taping, strapping and pallet staging before installing the line.
What should a representative trial contain?
- Smallest and largest cartons, including the lightest or weakest board.
- The actual number of cartons per group and intended orientation.
- Production film with its supplier and grade recorded.
- Stop-start operation and a timed change between pack sizes.
- Written visual and handling acceptance criteria agreed by both teams.
When is a customized arrangement useful?
A custom machine design discussion can address unusual carton proportions, transfer gaps or loading heights. Share a measured layout and photographs of the current process. Confirm any guarding, access space and handoff points before approving the arrangement, then ask for a clear list of customer-supplied equipment so the quotation covers the complete job.
