A horizontal or vertical band sealer should be selected around how the filled pouch behaves. Product movement, available headspace and the ability to present a clean pouch mouth matter more than the orientation label alone. Prepare filled samples before requesting a recommendation.
When should horizontal handling be considered?
A horizontal band sealer is a format to discuss when the filled pouch can travel in the intended horizontal presentation without contaminating the seal area. Check product movement and support along the conveyor using real filled weights.
For larger duty requirements, compare the master horizontal band sealer by its confirmed model specification and trial results. Do not assume that a larger frame automatically accepts every heavier or wider pouch.
When does a vertical arrangement help?
A vertical band sealer can be assessed where the pouch needs to remain upright. Confirm the supported pouch height, conveyor load and adjustment range with the supplier. The seal mouth must reach the sealing path consistently without the operator pulling or tilting a heavy pouch.
Provide the pouch material structure and its sealing guidance. Pouch width, filled height and headspace should be recorded separately. The same nominal bag size can behave differently at a different fill weight or with another product.
What should the trial include?
- The actual filled pouch and production material batch.
- Consistent feeding by the expected operator.
- Seal appearance and agreed seal-integrity checks after cooling.
- Stop-start operation and changes between regular pouch sizes.
How do you compare quotations?
Ask which conveyor, coding arrangement and adjustments are included, if applicable. State the required acceptable pouches per hour rather than only a conveyor speed. Use machine consultation to confirm the configuration and the band-seal investigation guide to define the defect examples that should be checked during acceptance.
