A shrink tunnel quotation is useful only when it describes the packs you intend to run. Two machines with similar external dimensions can offer different usable openings, conveyors and heating arrangements. Begin with the pack requirement, then compare equipment against the same acceptance trial.
How do you choose the tunnel size?
Measure the complete wrapped pack at its widest, tallest and longest points. Include trays, projections and loose film. Send the range of sizes to the supplier and ask for the working clearance needed around the pack. Do not choose an opening that merely matches the product dimensions; airflow and transfer clearance also need consideration.
Compare the shrink tunnel machine with a portable shrink tunnel using actual pack weight and stability. Confirm the conveyor surface, loading height and support at the entry and exit. An unsupported transfer can damage a pack even when it fits inside the tunnel.
What changes the quoted price?
Usable opening, heating arrangement, conveyor design, controls and line interfaces change the supply scope. Request the installed electrical load and site connection requirements for the proposed model. Installed load is not a promise of average electricity consumption; ask how consumption will be measured during a representative run.
Record which sealing equipment, stands, cooling section and integration work are included. Compare freight, installation and training as separate scope items where appropriate. A lower machine-only price can leave essential handling equipment outside the order.
What should the supplier demonstrate?
- Your smallest and largest production packs with the intended film.
- Sustained acceptable output, including loading and unloading time.
- Seam integrity, corner finish and product condition after cooling.
- A normal changeover and restart using documented settings.
