A shrink sleeve has to fit the container before it can shrink to its final shape. Container geometry, sleeve material, print layout and the shrinking process work together. Prepare samples of the complete bottle and sleeve combination before selecting a sleeve shrink wrapping machine.
What information should come from the label supplier?
Provide the sleeve material, thickness, lay-flat width, cut length and recommended processing conditions. Include the printed artwork and seam position. Ask the label supplier to identify areas where distortion could affect important text or visual alignment on the container.
Send the actual filled container with its closure. Shoulder shape, base diameter, recesses and changes in cross-section can affect sleeve placement and final appearance. If several containers share one printed sleeve design, test each combination explicitly.
What should the machine supplier confirm?
Clarify which tasks the proposed system performs: sleeve feeding, cutting, application, positioning and shrinking. Confirm the type of shrinking equipment included and its utility requirements. Do not assume that every applicator package contains the same heat source or handling arrangement.
Discuss bottle arrival, conveyor height and product spacing. Empty lightweight containers may handle differently from filled ones. The enquiry should describe the state in which containers actually reach the applicator during production.
What does a useful trial inspect?
- Sleeve placement before shrinking and repeatability over a run.
- Artwork alignment, seam appearance and wrinkling after cooling.
- Closure, bottle and product condition after the process.
- A normal restart and change between container formats.
