Powder filling consistency depends on the material condition and the dosing arrangement together. When fill weights change, start by comparing the product and process with the accepted trial. A settings change may hide a material-feeding issue without resolving it.
What should be recorded during a run?
Use a suitable verified weighing method and record individual samples according to the agreed plan. Note target weight, actual result, product batch and sampling time. Mark material-refill events and normal stops so variation can be compared with changes in the process.
For the auger filler, keep the installed dosing configuration and approved settings with the record. If a powder settles or aerates during handling, tell the supplier how it was stored and transferred before filling. Avoid describing a variable product simply as the same powder as last time.
Which observations help identify the cause?
Note bridging, irregular feed, clinging material or dust around the filling area. Record whether variation is random, develops gradually or follows a refill. Provide safe external photographs and the resulting pack weights. Do not reach into a hopper or moving dosing mechanism to inspect product behaviour.
Compare package presentation too. A narrow opening or poorly supported pouch can cause spillage, making the final pack weight appear low even when the dosing sequence is unchanged. Inspect the seal area for deposited powder before the package moves downstream.
How should a correction be evaluated?
- Change only supplier-approved operating parameters.
- Keep product and packaging conditions consistent during comparison.
- Repeat the agreed sampling plan after the change.
- Record rejects, spillage and complete workstation output.
When should the supplier review the application?
Ask after-sales support to review persistent variation or a new powder. Use the auger selection guide to prepare product, package and cleaning requirements. A successful setup for one material should not be presented as proof of performance for every future powder.
